Client: Bath and North East Somerset Council & English Partnerships
Project: Underground Drilling, Combe Down Stone Mines, Bath
Site Description: The Combe Down Stone Mines stabilisation project in Bath will safeguard homes, schools and businesses over a 40 acre site, beneath which over-working has left cover as thin as 2m in places. Underground drilling has been carried out to investigate the lateral and vertical extent of the mine workings, and to subsequently verify that void infilling with foamed concrete has been successful.
Services Provided: Orientational core drilling; laser scanning.
Outcome: By modifying industry-standard equipment to suit the underground conditions, Hydrock engineers were able to investigate the extent of the mineworkings and verify the infill works, to confirm the success of the concrete pumping.
