Project: Structural Engineering of Bridgwater College Health & Fitness Centre, Bridgwater Campus, Somerset
Site Description: Bridgwater College required an iconic new building on a campus site with limited space, working to a tight budget. Energy efficiency was placed at the heart of the design.
Services Provided: Structural and civil engineering consultancy.
Outcome: The classrooms were designed to be naturally ventilated, utilising thermal mass from concrete coffer units to save money and reduce carbon dioxide emissions. By combining the requirements of the architecture, thermal performance and structure of the building, the need for a false ceiling and additional fabricated ducting was avoided, while off-site fabrication techniques meant construction was quick and cost-effective.
