Client: Portland Gas
Project: Portland Gas Storage Project, Isle of Portland, Dorset
Site Description: The client intends to store gas in natural caverns underground and build a storage facility in an area known for historical landslips. The site will need to link with the National Grid which will be connected by an underground pipeline.
Services Provided: Enabling works (removal of existing foundations and slabs); recycling of concrete for secondary aggregates; drainage design and construction; earthworks; design and construction of the wellpad and cellars; wireline drilling and conventional drilling; shell and auger boreholes; installation of deep inclinometers and wireline geophysics; landslide risk assessment; contaminated land investigation.
Outcome: Hydrock's geotechnical experience and in-house expertise was used to reinterpret available data and to produce geotechnical reports which were used as part of the planning application, demonstrating that the future facility would be stable. Planning consent was granted in May 2008 and design and build of the wellpad is now underway.
