We have three important communities. Our clients and their stakeholders; our people; and the wider communities in which we work. Our focus is on delivering safe, sustainable, and quality outcomes for everyone in these communities.

We are a business known for both our dynamic and entrepreneurial approach, and our technical excellence. 

As a client, you can be assured of two critical things. Firstly, when you ask us for advice and input to your project, you can be certain that we will be with you for the long-term. We will take ownership of the challenges, collaborate with you and other project team members, and guide you every step of the way. The second thing you can be assured of is that Hydrock is a business where you get to meet and talk directly to the experts. Our senior team is hands-on, contributing fully to the delivery of projects.

In many areas of our work we also play an important role representing you, our client, to a whole range of stakeholders, including, local authorities, the Environment Agency, regulatory bodies, community groups etc. We pride ourselves on our professional approach to these situations, ensuring our presentation of information is clear, concise and inclusive. We listen, reflect, and ensure that the final outcomes are balanced and considered.

Our people

For our people, the culture of our business makes Hydrock a way of life where shared experiences are central to our values. Our emphasis on this is reflected by achieving a placing inside the top 30 of the Sunday Times 100 Best Companies to Work For study for three consecutive years.

 

We place importance on supporting and encouraging the health and wellbeing of our people. For example, every employee is entitled to an annual healthy living bonus and our annual Challenge Day brings all staff together for a day of business briefings and fun, team-based activities to suit all tastes.

We have an excellent safety culture embedded through our ‘Safe People, Safe Site, Safe Home’ initiative and we support the professional development of all our staff through our Management Development Programme which focuses on soft skills training from entry level to senior leadership, and a wide range of support for professional skills training and development.

Our aim is to create a company where our staff are praised, rewarded and valued.

Our communities

We place a strong emphasis on supporting our local communities and charities that are close to the hearts of our people.

All staff can take at least one paid day per year to undertake some form of practical activity in support of charitable causes. Staff also select a charity for the company to support throughout the year. In 2017 we are raising money to support Cancer Research UK and any monies raised are match-funded by Hydrock.

We actively support STEM learning in schools through trained ambassadors and activity-based programmes with a number of schools. In 2017, we ran a science-based session on soils and groundwater to Year 6 students at a primary school in north London as part of our community outreach related to our work on the Meridian Water development, and we also ran a session exploring sustainable building design for Year 7 students at a school close to our head office in South Gloucestershire.

We actively embed environmental and sustainability principles into our culture and practices. We use electric and hybrid vehicles as ‘pool cars’ to attend meetings; we use renewable energy sources to heat and cool key office locations; we have video conferencing facilities in offices; and we have clear and active recycling programmes at each location.
