We are looking for an experienced individual with a passion for the built environment and the desire to work in a highly collaborative multi-disciplinary team focused on sustainability, technical excellence and shaping construction in the UK and beyond.

What will you be responsible for?

  • Contributing to the delivery of a varied portfolio of projects, working with civil engineers and members from other teams, including scheme feasibility and concept design, modelling, detailed design, specification and construction drawings.
  • Supporting the provision of sound technical advice and guidance to project teams
  • Informing and developing in-house drawing and modelling standards, tools, workflows and learning programmes
  • Liaising with internal and external team members, developing relationships and people skills
  • Managing own workload to meet project deadlines.
  • Managing civil engineering technician resource, support and delivery
  • Able to contributing to project team meetings.
  • Able to attend appropriate sites, to improve understanding, undertake inspections and walkover surveys to inform design

What opportunities will the role bring?

  • Driving progression in civil engineering drawing and modelling standards in Birmingham and beyond
  • Aiding in the training and development of junior staff 
  • Engaging with the wider C&S division and the Technical leadership Team to exchange best practice and processes and support on-going initiatives

To succeed in this role, you’ll need:

  • At least 5 years relevant experience as a civil engineering technician
  • To be or working towards being an expert level user of AutoCAD and Civil3D
  • Humility, self-motivation and enthusiasm.
  • Excellent communication, presentation, drawing and writing skills.
  • To buy into Hydrock’s values and ethos

We are also keen to know if you can offer any of these attributes:

  • Digital engineering skills, including coding experience related to design automation or other digitisation improvements.
  • Additional languages that you are fluent or able to apply professionally, as well as English.
  • Experience of relevant software tools, crucially AutoCAD, and Civil 3D, but MicroDrainage/InfoDrainage, and/or PDS experience would be useful.
  • Sustainable urban drainage, biodiversity net gain, flood risk and nutrient neutrality knowledge, or an interest in these fields
