Hydrock working with Avison Young on RAF Henlow development

12th Aug 2020

Hydrock has been appointed to a multidisciplinary consultancy team led by Avison Young, on behalf of Homes England, for the redevelopment of RAF Henlow in Bedfordshire.

The 200ha site, which has been a military airbase since 1918, is being redeveloped by Homes England to provide a high quality and highly sustainable scheme of homes, commercial space, a local centre and community facilities.

Hydrock will be providing full multi-disciplinary engineering services on the technical and environmental aspects of a new masterplan and outline planning permission for the site, assisting Avison Young in promoting the base for allocation for development in the emerging Central Bedfordshire Local Plan.

We will be providing drainage, flood risk, ground investigation, air quality, acoustics, transport, utilities, waste management and structural engineering services, to accompany archaeology and heritage services provided by Cotswold Archaeology and ecology and arboriculture services provided by Tyler Grange.

Adam Anthony, Associate Director for Hydrock’s Strategic Projects team, said, “We’re delighted to be involved in this project, working closely with our project partners Avison Young and Allies and Morrison to provide a significant development for the Bedfordshire area that will provide housing and community facilities while respecting the history of this site.”

The base was declared surplus to MoD requirements in 2016 and is being vacated on a phased basis up to 2023.

The project team is targeting securing planning permission before the end of 2021.
