National award win for UKHO headquarters at British Construction Industry Awards

11th Oct 2019

Hydrock was part of the team celebrating success at the BCIA awards as the stunning new UKHO headquarters building was named Commercial Property Project of the Year at these national awards.

The British Construction Industry Awards (BCIA) are the most prestigious awards in the built environment sector, recognising excellence in project delivery and, crucially, delivering outcomes for society and calling on the collaborative effort of the whole project team.

The UK Hydrographic Office, a stunning new 11,000 sq m headquarters building which prioritises both collaborative and agile workspace, beat stiff competition to win one of the most prestigious awards of the night: Commercial Property Project of the Year.

Every short-listed project is subject to a judges’ visit. The judges’ citation included comments such as: “A stunning building that has impressively hit its brief – excellent in every aspect”; and: “A delightful working environment. Fantastically effective in changing workplace culture and meeting the needs of a changing marketplace.” The judges also highlighted the acoustic engineering, the colours and texture and the impressive attention to minimising the environmental impact.

The full project team of AHR, BAM, Mace, Hydrock and our client, the UKHO in-house team, were on hand to collect the award from BBC 5Live and Newsnight presenter, Emma Barnett.

UKHO triumphed again the very following night at the Insider South West Property Awards, winning Commercial Development of the Year.

Hydrock delivered the full structural and building services design for the UKHO headquarters, including the mechanical and electrical design and the acoustics design. In addition, we delivered the civil engineering design, transport design and geo-environmental advice.
