Glen Irwin
Technical Director, MEP
Birmingham
BEng (Hons), CEng, MCIBSE, BREEAM AP

Glen leads our post-construction advisory service which helps building occupiers to reduce energy costs and improve the energy efficiency of their buildings.
Based in Birmingham, and working UK-wide with our teams specialising in post-occupancy evaluation, Glen offers both our new and existing clients an ‘after-care’ service to ensure their buildings run as efficiently as originally conceived.
Following a rigorous training and assessment programme led by the Better Buildings Partnership, Glen was successfully confirmed as one of just 11 industry experts on the newly formed NABERS UK Independent Design Review Panel, launched by the BRE in April 2021. As a member of this exclusive panel, Glen is available to review new project designs in the UK and share best practice to ensure projects achieve their operational energy targets.
In a career spanning almost 30-years, Glen has worked both consultancy-side and for main contractors and consequently has experience of many elements of building design, construction and operation. His knowledge of the entire building process, from concept to handover, gives him a unique perspective to work with occupier clients to understand why buildings are consuming more energy than expected and to identify where efficiencies and savings can be made.
Glen’s career experience includes energy and carbon reduction strategies for healthcare projects, education campuses, leisure centres, commercial developments, large residential developments, data centres, and site-wide energy strategies for major mixed-use developments.
Glen is qualified as a BREEAM Accredited Professional, has produced papers for the British Council for Offices and is regularly on the judging panel for the West Midlands Construction Excellence awards.
