Working with Lovell Homes, Hydrock has provided civil, structural engineering and transport planning consultancy services for the re-development of a former school site in south-east Wales into a high quality residential estate, including social housing and affordable units.

We have provided a range of services from site appraisal through to construction.  Our design works included extensive Section 38 highway design and adoption, and an extensive sustainable drainage system to reduce the flood risk to the development and off-site properties.

Through the engineering appraisal stage, Hydrock set out a range of surface water drainage strategies to the developer to meet the requirements of both Dwr Cymru Welsh Water and the local authority.  Our engineering solutions were also designed to reduce the impact on above ground space in terms of the number of units or public open space.

Close dialogue with both the water authority and the local council ensured that approval was given and the relevant planning conditions were successfully discharged.

Our Transportation team supported the planning application by providing a Transport Statement which fully considered the impact of the proposals on the highway network. This included an Active Travel Act Audit of key walking and cycling routes linking to local facilities and bus stops and the design of a planning stage priority access junction at a constrained location. This was discussed and agreed with the highway authority. The S38 detailed design was then taken forwards by our infrastructure team.

We provided masterplan advice in relation to vehicle manoeuvrability, visibility, refuse collection, pedestrian connectivity, car parking and cycle parking. Our advice considered the needs of all users and impacts on existing residents, whilst ensuring the scheme was viable and deliverable.

The development is scheduled for completion by the end of 2019.
