James Macfarlane Technical Director (Asbestos)

With over 10 years’ experience in the asbestos industry, James is a British Occupational Hygiene Society qualified asbestos surveyor and laboratory analyst. He has considerable experience in managing both large and small scale asbestos in soils remediation projects throughout the UK, including providing technical and design consultancy support to clients on major infrastructure projects such as Hinkley Point C and Crossrail, in addition to advising property developers with residential, commercial and mixed-use schemes.

James’ approach is to help all parties to manage potential risk and reduce costs. He manages the overall strategic approach to a contaminated site in addition to managing the contractors and the specialists who can resolve the issue. He also helps clients to manage the relationship and communication with the regulatory bodies and other key stakeholders.

With his significant experience in the asbestos contaminated land industry, James regularly speaks at leading industry conferences run by CIRIA, Brownfield Briefing and SiLC. He has also written blogs published by Brownfield Briefing, including a piece in 2018 for the Brownfield Land Wales conference on addressing the longer-term risks of re-using asbestos affected soils.
