Michael is a Chartered Environmentalist supporting organisations to maximise opportunities for climate change mitigation, and building climate change resilience and adaptation capabilities throughout their operations and supply chains.

Michael develops environmental and sustainability strategies for major infrastructure works. He has delivered services to both UK and international clients and is notably experienced in delivering carbon and life cycle assessments (LCA) of rail and highways infrastructure programmes and carbon footprints and LCAs for product manufacturers.

His role embraces data analysis and reporting, and verification to established industry standards.

Michael’s career track record includes a secondment to HS2 via a delivery partner contract acting as Carbon & Sustainability Assurance Manager. Michael supported HS2’s carbon manager and sustainability leads with overall management of sustainable procurement and analysis of the carbon impacts. His role included monitoring and auditing the quality of LCAs and other submissions from key contractors on the project.

In addition, he has reviewed CEEQUAL v6 to shape how HS2 adopt appropriate measurement tools; he has advised on the adoption of BREEAM Infrastructure for the TransPennine Route upgrade; completed LCAs at design stages of the restoration of the Dounreay nuclear site; supported the development of an ISO 14001 certified Environmental Management System for Primark’s direct operations and supply chain; and delivered product LCAs for Kerry Foods and Ingredients.

Michael is a full and active member of the Institute of Environmental Management and Assessment. In 2022, he was ‘Highly Commended’ in the Rising Star category at the Sustainability Consulting Awards.
