Sustainability Benchmarking and Environmental Assessments

Sustainability credentials for buildings have never been so important. It makes achieving internationally recognised benchmarks highly significant for commercial and social value.

Stepping-up your sustainability journey matters to all your stakeholders. Customers, employees, communities, and investors will all form an opinion of your business through the real estate you develop, invest in, or occupy.

By securing the highest of sustainable credentials, you can maximise rental income, increase asset value, attract the best occupiers and offer investors a strong ESG narrative that supports your future funding streams.

We will help you achieve the best outcomes by creating toolkits that benchmark, measure and improve carbon and broader sustainability performance. These are founded on established international frameworks such as the UN Sustainable Development Goals.

Our advice ranges from strategic masterplan sites that promote multi-faceted BREEAM / WELL communities, and Building with Nature, through to individually targeted opportunities using more detailed studies such as Passivhaus.

We are familiar with leading national and international benchmarking assessments such as BREEAM, CEEQUAL, LEED, WELL, DREAM, CfSH, HQM, WiredScore, GRESB, CRREM, Passivhaus and NABERS UK.

We work collaboratively within project teams to provide clear guidance and robust strategies which ensure targets are embedded and delivered.

Assessments cover a broad range of areas, including:

  • Management
  • Health and wellbeing
  • Energy
  • Transport
  • Water
  • Materials and waste
  • Land use and ecology
  • Pollution

Carbon verification – your assurance on GHG claims

How do you ensure your efforts to decarbonise are meaningful? Carbon verification checks, tests and proves claims are what they say they are.

BREEAM In-Use

It’s never been more important to demonstrate the environmental performance of an existing building to attract users and maintain asset value.

BREEAM In-Use is an international benchmarking and certification scheme for existing commercial and residential buildings. It enables you to assess your assets, benchmarking their performance and securing a rating that demonstrates the quality and value of your building.

We have qualified BREEAM In-Use International assessors who can audit buildings and identify where improvements are needed.

Specialist qualified assessors

Investors, developers and occupiers are all equally focused on benchmarking real estate to demonstrate quality and responsibility in the face of the climate agenda.

Across our team, we have qualified assessors and experts in some of the key benchmarks:

  • FITWEL: this standard helps shape buildings that support the wellbeing of occupants and healthy communities. It includes over 70 evidence-based design and operational strategies to enhance buildings and sites in addressing a range of health behaviours and risks and is used by our qualified Fitwel ambassadors. For more information, contact Michael Davey.
  • NABERS UK: we have qualified assessors able to use this highly regarded rating system for the energy efficiency of office space. Helping building owners understand the performance of their asset, there is a ‘Design for Performance’ programme to drive energy-efficient new buildings, and an energy ratings system to measure the energy-efficiency of existing buildings. For more information, contact Jack Gorman.
  • ActiveScore: we have AP accredited professionals in the ActiveScore certification. This is the definitive accreditation for active travel provision in real estate. The assessment is region specific and based on 18 different criteria related to infrastructure, occupier engagement initiatives and future-proofing measures to cater for increased travel. Facilities that cater for active travel can inspire the uptake of more healthy and active modes of transport. It adds value to ESG reporting, has the potential to reduce Scope 3 'employee commuting' category emissions, and develops a sense of community in workplaces.
