This is a brand-new role and prominent position in our talented, successful, and rapidly growing Renewable Energy and Utility Management team in Scotland.

If you are a Principal or Senior Engineer/Consultant with a strong consultancy background in renewable energy generation and distribution, grid connections, battery storage or electrical building services engineering (MEP), this is an opportunity to join an established team led by  Tom Shilton, Associate Director and Leah Holmes develop your career and hone your leadership skills as this team grows in Scotland. You will work alongside Charlie Drysdale, Associate Director responsible for our Smart Energy & Sustainability proposition in Scotland, to grow this team.

So, what will you be responsible for?

Do you have an infectious and inspiring passion for sustainable design, innovative and low energy solutions is paramount, in addition to understanding the ever-evolving national and local legislative drivers?

You will help us develop our renewable energy and utilities consultancy and project development.

Your key responsibilities (as per the first set of bullet points above) will be to support in the following areas. Please note that we aren’t expecting you to have first-hand experience of everything listed. We expect you’ll bring significant expertise in some and a desire to gain experience in any areas you’re less familiar with.

  • Overseeing delivery of consultancy projects including Solar PV, battery storage and wind at all scales both Behind and In-Front of the Meter
  • Viability assessments and feasibility studies
  • Power engineering strategies
  • Power capacity and resilience assessments
  • Project management
  • Financial modelling and revenue forecasting
  • Technical, economic and environmental risk management.
  • Advising clients on planning, procurement, tendering and implementation
  • Developing scopes and fee proposals
  • Liaising with specialist sub-consultants
  • Supporting the wider division on utilities/energy infrastructure, masterplanning and carbon management.

To succeed in this role, you’ll need:

  • A passion for net zero, innovation and low carbon solutions is paramount.
  • Experience in the renewables, electrical MEP or power engineering sector.
  • Project management experience, including technical leadership of dispersed/remote project teams, in the engineering/energy industry, or perhaps an alternative design or energy modelling background with skills that could be applied to renewables sector.
  • Ability to work collaboratively and integrate with other disciplines, including structural engineering, building services (MEP), acoustics, fire, utilities, transportation and geo-environmental.
  • A collaborative, enthusiastic and forward-thinking approach.

Can you bring this experience or are you keen to learn?

  • Working knowledge of energy sector and regulatory framework.
  • Working knowledge of renewable energy / modelling techniques.
  • Knowledge of or technical ability in energy/renewables related disciplines.
  • Practical experience of developing or designing renewables/battery storage projects.
  • An ability to apply analytical skills across a range of scale, i.e., buildings, campuses, cities.
  • Experience in presenting analytical information in a clear and concise manner.
  • Knowledge of energy performance, environmental, legal and financial requirements.
  • Working knowledge of financial modelling and revenue forecasting.
  • Experience and working knowledge of the energy market, capacity and grid balancing, demand side response, connection agreements, market business models etc.
