Plans submitted for transformational residential scheme in central Birmingham

13th Dec 2017

Property developer, MCR Property Group, has submitted plans to demolish and replace Monaco House with a £220 million landmark development in Birmingham’s city centre.

Situated on the main arterial route into Birmingham, Bristol Street, the brand new development will comprise 1,050 residential units and mixed use accommodation, and aims to create a modern village environment for tenants and homeowners.

Led by architects, Leach Rhodes Walker‏ and planning consultant, Pegasus, the new buildings encompassing the Monaco House community will merge crisp urban architecture with the surrounding city landscape, complemented by the full-height windows that allow swathes of natural light throughout all of the units.

Hydrock has provided a range of multi-disciplinary services at pre-planning stage. As part of a number of specialist reports required by the Local Authority, we undertook MEP design, urban drainage strategy (SUDS) and flood risk mitigation, a land quality study, civil and structural engineering design, daylight, sunlight and overshadowing (DSO) analysis as well as an initial microclimate assessment.

Commenting on the scheme, Richard McWilliam, Technical Director in Hydrock’s Building Performance Engineering business, said: “Monaco House is an extremely exciting development scheme for Birmingham that is set to provide vital new residential accommodation for the city. For Hydrock, it’s been a privilege to work with such a high calibre team and it has been a real opportunity to showcase our specialist multi-disciplinary pre-planning expertise in supporting MCR Property Group with their planning submission.”
