Celebrating five wins at 2023 Constructing Excellence South West Construction Awards

21st Jul 2023

We’re celebrating a quintuple victory at the prestigious Constructing Excellence South West Construction Awards 2023! This exceptional achievement exemplifies our unwavering commitment to sustainable development in the south west.

The awards ceremony was held in the Aerospace Bristol museum that houses Concorde, with Hydrock mentioned in the opening key note speech for the incredible structural engineering required to get this iconic plane into the building.

Conservation & Regeneration Award

Alongside our project Partners, Beard Construction, we took home the Conservation & Regeneration Award for Cleveland Pools, a project for which we provided sympathetic and innovative multidisciplinary engineering solutions. The Cleveland Pools, on the outskirts of Bath, were built in 1815 and are the country’s only surviving Georgian lido and the UK’s oldest public open-air swimming baths.

Construction Project of the Year

Alongside our project partners, Bouygues UK, we won Construction Project of the Year for Castle Park View. We delivered detailed MEP and acoustics design on this highly anticipated residential development, a scheme which saw the regeneration of a brownfield site in the centre of Bristol.

Special Mention Award

Alongside our project partners, ISG and AHR Architects, Hawksfield Studios took home the Special Mention Award. This project saw us provide detailed fire safety design solutions for the transformation of Hawksfield Business Park into 4,000 sqm of studio space with areas for live audiences, giving Bottle Yard Film Studios, home of ITV’s Broadchurch and BBC costume drama Poldark, a brand-new location.

Integration & Collaborative Working Award

Partnered with ISG and architects, Hatcher Prichard, Two Rivers Church of England Primary School won the award for Integration & Collaborative Working. This is testament to a full team effort with the local authority, Bath & North East Somerset Council to create the first-ever Passivhaus Plus certified school for the Department for Education. Hydrock delivered the MEP, structural, civils and ground engineering for this 420-place school which has exemplary energy efficiency standards.

Value Award

In addition, Hartpury University and College won the Value Award – we have a long-standing track record of working on this higher education campus, including most recently utility improvements.

Ric Hampton, regional director for Bristol and the South, said:

Seeing these projects win such prestigious awards is a tremendous achievement for Hydrock and all the fantastic organisations involved in their successful delivery. It’s a testament to the design team’s collaboration, expertise and innovative approach to engineering. These awards reinforce Hydrock's position as a leader in the industry, demonstrating our commitment to pushing boundaries and achieving sustainable outcomes.
