Double win at RICS South West Awards: Commercial Project of the Year and Building Conservation Award

15th May 2017

Two significant Hydrock projects were successful at the RICS Awards in the south west (11 May, 2017). 1 Research Way, part of Plymouth Science Park, scooped the award for Commercial Project of the Year, whilst The General won the Building Conservation category, in addition to being Highly Commended within the Residential category.

The recent completion and opening of 1 Research Way has received much publicity as a landmark building positioned at the front of Plymouth Science Park providing fantastic facilities for science and technology businesses. Led by Hydrock’s structural engineers in Plymouth, the award is testament to the level of design, innovation and overall contribution provided by a great project team.

Hydrock joined the wider project team of HLM Architects, Hulley & Kirkwood, our client BAM, and the ultimate client, the Science Park at the event in Bristol.

In two separate categories, the transformation of the listed Bristol General Hospital building in the centre of Bristol into luxury residential accommodation was also recognised. An iconic city-centre project, The General was a winner for our client, City & Country, in the Building Conservation category. Hydrock has been providing multi-disciplinary engineering services on this flagship project since 2011.

Commenting on the evening’s successes, Hydrock’s National Structures Director, Jerry King, said “These projects are a testament to the collaboration and commitment of the teams involved. It is a great privilege that they have been recognised at the RICS south west awards”.

1 Research Way and The General were two of a total of six shortlisted projects Hydrock have been involved with. The other projects were:

  • Seaton Jurassic Visitor Centre, Seaton
  • The Cotswold Dogs and Cats Home, Gloucestershire
  • Wapping Wharf Phase I, Bristol
  • The Old Gymnasium, Marlborough College, Marlborough.
