The Wave crowned People’s Choice at ICE South West awards

28th Sept 2020

Hydrock project The Wave Bristol won the People's Choice award at the Institution of Civil Engineers South West Civil Engineering Awards 2020, with over 1,000 votes from the public.

The project was a collective team effort brought to life through the vision of Nick Hounsfield and The Wave team, the architectural vision and inspiration of Adam Parsons from APG Architecture, the technology of Wavegarden, the project management of Ward Williams, contracting from Andrew Scott and multi-disciplinary engineering from multiple teams here at Hydrock.

This year’s public vote was extremely popular, with 3,422 votes cast. Incredibly, The Wave gained 1,011 of those votes, so a huge thank you to each and every person that voted.

The judges were impressed with the project team’s vision, strength and determination to see it through. In particular, they noted The Wave’s combination of world leading technology, engagement with the community and social impact.

Architect Adam Parsons, who managed to open The Wave during the same week his partner gave birth, noted in his presentation that a key aspect of The Wave is that it sits seamlessly into the surrounding environment, but there’s a lot of engineering going on below the ground – it’s all part of an ecosystem that makes up the project.

Hydrock’s Marketing Director Graham Munday commented on the win, “We talk so much of encouraging people from all backgrounds to be inspired by the engineering and construction sector, and to explore the enormous variety of opportunities within our industry where they can use their skills and creativity, so to win the People’s Choice Award is both humbling and enormously exciting. The Wave is a perfect demonstration of how we can, and have, inspired people with great design, from an engineering, architectural, construction and most importantly environmental perspective.”

A huge congratulations to the whole project team from all at Hydrock.
