Hydrock helps achieve planning consent for major new urban extension

23rd Jan 2016

Hydrock's South West transportation team has helped secure outline planning consent for part of the Parklands urban extension at Weston-super-Mare, providing a full range of transportation services in support of the application.

The proposal is for an employment-led socially, economically and environmentally sustainable development on a 650 hectare site to the south east of the town adjacent to the A370. On behalf of Mead Realisations, Hydrock has assisted in obtaining planning consent for:

  • 1,150 homes
  • Commercial units
  • 520 place primary school
  • Nursery
  • Hotel
  • Care home.

Hydrock’s involvement has covered the full scope of transportation services, including: a full Transport Assessment, Travel Plan, appraisal and re-modelling of the M5 J21 Major Scheme Bid improvements, design of two new site accesses, design of improvements to existing off-site highways to meet the anticipated traffic, and road safety audits.

James McKechnie, Transportation Technical Director at Hydrock, said: “This is a great project that has given us the opportunity to showcase our expertise in providing strategic transportation advice to clients, including management of liaison with the Local Highway Authority, the Highways Agency and the Department for Transport.”
