Hydrock appointed by John Sisk & Son Ltd to deliver works on Manchester Life development

Hydrock has been appointed by John Sisk and Son for the detailed design work on Manchester Life Development Company's New Union Street development in East Manchester.
Having been granted planning permission in July 2015, the New Union Street site will witness the rejuvenation of a vacant brownfield site in the heart of one of Manchester's key regeneration areas on the edge of the city centre.
Over 300 residential apartments for private rental will be created in a trio of apartment buildings, containing one, two and three-bed apartments with landscaped surroundings and communal spaces, inter-connecting terraces, 128 parking spaces, and two retail or food and beverage outlets along the marina-side public walkway.
Hydrock will be providing civil, structural and geo-environmental engineering consultancy services.
Designs will be undertaken within a BIM environment, working closely with John Sisk and Son to deliver rapid design output in accordance with a challenging programme.
Hydrock's geo-environmental team will ensure designs confidently satisfy planning conditions, including the production of a remediation method statement and an options appraisal to highlight the most sustainable solutions to the required works.
The reinforced concrete structure frame, designed as flat slabs with blade columns to minimise floor thicknesses and maximise size of apartments, will start to be constructed in winter 2015, with apartments ready for occupation in the autumn of 2017.
